The Merchant Yard is a unique place. Here it is possible to implement any kind of challenging artistic ideas. The author of the project and the organizers are sure that the atrium of the Merchant Yard will serve as a point where the East and the West will amalgamate.
About the Merchant Yard
The history of the Merchant Yard goes back to the XIV century. Today it occupies almost an entire block in the heart of Moscow, just150 meters from the Kremlin.
In the mid-1990s, the government of Moscow conducted a reconstruction of the Merchant Yard, which resulted in its transformation into a modern business, cultural and shopping center with all the necessary services and equipped according to international standards.
The uniqueness of the Merchant Yard is not exclusively due to its location, but also because of the eccentricity of art projects it invites. It provides a peculiar connection between time periods. Surrounded with stucco columns, classic style arches, one can see a granite flooring interior courtyard of about 12,000 sq.m. It is covered by the largest in Europe light unsupported translucent roofing (the covered town square is comparable in size and shape to the Venetiansquare ofSan Marco inItaly).
In the interior courtyard of the Atrium many various cultural events take place: urban and national holidays, international festivals, exhibitions and salons, concerts, shows and fashion shows.
